Destinee Stewart

A STORYTELLER EXPLORING IDENTITY AND TRANSFORMATION

DESTINEE STEWART CREATES WORK THAT INVITES AUDIENCES INTO JOURNEYS OF SELF-DISCOVERY, EXPLORING THE TENSION BETWEEN FEAR AND FREEDOM

Destinee Stewart

Destinee Stewart is a filmmaker and storyteller whose work explores identity, transformation, and the deep ache of trying to belong. She writes about people—often women of color—on self-discovery journeys, trapped between past and present, trying to break cycles or exist outside of what others deem acceptable. Her characters often feel like outsiders in their own lives, but through them, Destinee reveals how the very things we fear can be the key to liberation.

Her most recent film, The Other Partners, premiered at the Oscar®-qualifying RiverRun Film Festival in 2024. Her psychological horror feature, Wade in the Water, has been supported by BendFilm: Basecamp and the Cucalorus Writing Residency. She is currently developing The Inheritance, a proof-of-concept short rooted in ancestral trauma and erasure, through the prestigious AFI Directing Workshop for Women+.

In addition to her filmmaking, Destinee is a dub director and creative lead on international Netflix titles including Love is Blind, Iron Chef, A Copenhagen Love Story, and In His Shadow. She also works as an outdoor educator, introducing BIPOC youth to the outdoors through hiking and camping—an extension of her commitment to stories of reflection, connection, and reclaiming space.

SUPPORT DESTINEE STEWART’S ARTISTIC PRACTICE

Investing in the creation of deeply personal, transformative stories by a visionary Black filmmaker

Destinee is actively developing new work—writing, researching, and building out emotionally rich, visually compelling stories rooted in themes of identity, belonging, and transformation. She is currently nurturing future film concepts, participating in labs and workshops, and deepening her visual language through photography, research, and lived experience.

Your support directly fuels this creative development. It helps fund writing time, story research, participation in residencies and fellowships, and the early ideation of new projects. These investments make it possible for Destinee to continue crafting bold, cinematic work that centers underrepresented voices and stories that matter.
