WADE IN THE WATER

POC Short Film/Feature Film in Development

“Wade in the Water” is an elevated psychological thriller with themes that explore the effects of generational trauma on modern mixed-race relationships, including highlighting how Black women continue to suffer micro-aggressions & racism– sometimes even at the hands of allies.

Logline: Helping her white fiancé clear out an inherited house, African American Venus uncovers the truth of the past as the horrors of their ancestors’ connection become real around them – and through them.

“Wade in the Water” is a grounded, character-driven story infused with supernatural elements, delving into the enduring effects of generational trauma on interpersonal connections. Following the journey of Venus, an African American woman, the story explores her struggle to navigate societal expectations of race while grappling with her own identity and the haunting legacy of her ancestors. “Wade in the Water” is a vessel for unpacking my personal experiences with racism and microaggressions, holding a magnifying glass to the generational trauma that exists between female mixed race relationships. It is a story of a woman’s “Black Awakening” to herself and to the ancestors that lie within.

We are currently raising funds for our proof of concept short film.
