Jennifer Lewis
CO-FOUNDER AND PUBLISHER OF RED LIGHT LIT
Jennifer Lewis is a San Francisco-based writer, editor, curator, and the publisher of Red Light Lit. Her debut short story collection, The New Low, will be released in October 2022 by Nomadic Press, where her short story, “New Low,” was the winner of the Bindle Award in 2018. In 2020, she won the Los Angeles Review Flash Fiction award for “Put a Teat in It.” Her fiction has been published in Cosmonaut’s Avenue, ENTROPY, Fourteen Hills Press, Midnight Breakfast, The Los Angeles Press, sPARKLE & bLINK, and X-Ray Literary Magazine. She received her MFA in creative writing from San Francisco State University in May 2015 and was the recipient of the Leo Litwak Award for creative non-fiction in 2012 and for fiction in 2015. She teaches creative writing at The Writing Salon.
Red Light Lit is a small press and performance series that has published 10 literary journals. Red Light Lit is a platform for marginalized voices to explore love relationships, sexuality, and gender. In 2019, it published the poetry anthology Love Is the Drug & Other Dark Poems, featuring the work of 33 poets and 8 artists. In 2020, it published Unearth [The Flowers] by Thea Matthews, its first single-author poetry collection. In 2022, it’s open to publishing creative nonfiction, poetry, novellas, and short story collections.
Red Light Lit is also an interdisciplinary performance series that features live music, photography, dance, storytelling, and poetry set to a live score. The performers explore love relationships, sexuality and gender. Since founding in 2013, RLL has produced over 250 live shows (including in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle).
